Student Spotlight: Bryna

"My wellness journey began on January 4th 2016. Enough was enough. To say I felt awful would be an understatement. I had been suffering from vertigo for the better part of three years and it had left me feeling very anxious and depressed. The longer the dizziness persisted the more anxious I became and the more anxious I became the more I ate to try and soothe that anxiety. It was a very vicious cycle.
Sugar and processed foods were my drugsof choice and I was using them in excess on a daily basis. Sugar is a very powerful and very toxic drug. I believe when ingested at the levels I was consuming it at it causes inflammation and wreaks havoc everywhere in your body including your brain. On top of suffering from vertigo, anxiety, and depression I was also suffering from headaches, acid reflux and everything hurt all the time. I was standing on the sidelines of my life feeding anxiety with cookies. I felt like I was walking around in a fog. Sadly I no longer even wanted to do the things that had always brought me so much joy like walking my dogs and riding my horse.
I was desperate to feel better and take my life back. I decided I was getting healthy and I was putting it all down. No sugar, no processed food. Everything that went in my body was going to be clean real food. Lean meats, fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and water.
The first thirty days were very hard. My body was in detox. It had grown very fond of all that sugar and it was not happy about these changes. After I got through the physical and emotional detox my body started to thank me. My energy returned. The fog in my brain had lifted. Ninety days into it the headaches were gone, the joint pain gone, the reflux gone and so was the vertigo. I really couldn't believe I could feel THAT much better but I did.
I started adding exercise in the form of walking my dogs and riding again and by summer I was walking close to 5 miles a day and back on my horse 3-4 times a week. In September one of my besties invited me to go to a Barre class with her Wellbeloved Wellness. I had been really wanting to try it but was feeling intimidated. Fearful I wouldn't be able to keep up. I can not tell you how grateful I am that I joined her that day. I absolutely LOVED it and I was hooked. These absolutely amazing women thatinstruct these classes are fit and strong and extremely educated in the fitness arena. They give you a total body workout in the hour they have you and they will absolutely push you out of your comfort zone. However, they are also approachable and kind and so happy to let you do things at your own pace. They are always encouraging you to listen to your body and making sure you don't push yourself too far. They make it so fun. At first I went twice a week and then three times a week and now I'm on my fifth month and I try and get there 5 times a week. My body and my mind truly crave it. For the first time in my life I actually look forward to working out. I'm so grateful for that. My body has become stronger and stronger with each passing month and I've watched it change in ways I never thought possible for me. The women who have been in my classes have ranged from the ages of 15-70. All shapes, sizes and fitness levels and everyone is cheering each other on. It's pretty awesome.
It's never too late to make a positive change in your life. In the past year my body has shed over 100 pounds and I feel better at 42 than I did at 30.  I am completely enamored by what the body, mind and spirit can achieve when you treat it with respect and nurture it. I am so grateful to no longer be sitting on the sidelines of my life. Be kind to yourself and to each other. Surround yourself with uplifting people who will believe in you even when you don't believe in yourself. We all deserve to be strong, loved, and especially to be well."
