What is Barre and why does it work?
Barre is a 60- minute workout designed to sculpt, strengthen, and stretch the muscles, creating a long and lean physique. The Barre progressions sculpt the entire body, focusing on the legs but also challenging the core and lengthening the arm muscles. At Wellbeloved Wellness we offer many different techniques and styles of Barre. Our instructors are all trained and certified to be able to teach you the proper posture and alignment in order to achieve the lengthened muscles and ballet body you want while being safe and modifying for your body and needs. Small weights, TRX, Meca Wedges (for abdominal work), muscle isolations, functional training, balls, bands and classical ballet exercises are all used in our Barre classes.
Stools and The BeyondBarre GlideBoard and are used as a cardio component to our classes to increase stamina and cardiovascular health; think ballet meets hockey. Stretching is emphasized to guarantee these elongated muscles.
Who is Barre class for?
Barre is for everybody! Trust us, we are not just dancing around the studio, we are here to WORK. Each instructor is trained to instruct clients of all fitness levels and abilities. We offer many modifications, so if you have an injury, instructors will give you specific instructions to prevent further injury and strengthen the weakened area of the body. Each class is set to a certain rhythm and pace but encourages each client to work at her ability and listen to her body. Instructors promote support and camaraderie within each class.
Will Barre help me to lose weight? When will I start to see my body transform?
If you attend Barre 3-4 times a week and maintain a healthy diet, your body will respond accordingly. We focus on strengthening and lengthening the muscles, which burns calories more efficiently. Increased muscle will ultimately lead to weight loss!
Will I bulk up if I do Barre?
No. That’s the beauty of Barre. Most of the exercises use your own body weight rather than heavy weights. We also emphasize stretching, which allows you to achieve longer, leaner and stronger muscles.
How often should I attend Barre classes?
Our method is designed so you can do it every day, and we have many clients that do! As with any healthy exercise, the more you do it, the better the result. We recommend at least 3-4 times a week.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable workout clothes like yoga pants and tank tops. Make sure they're not too baggy so that the instructor can make sure you are in proper alignment. Be sure to bring our special micro fiber socks for all GlideBoard classes - we highly recommend purchasing a pair at the studio for $4 - ours are specifically designed to wick moisture and work best on the boards. All other classes require your sticky socks, which you can also purchase at class for $10.
Can I take class if I am pregnant or recently had a baby?
Always consult your doctor. Moderate exercise during and post pregnancy can help women feel healthy and fit.
Why do I have to wear socks? Can I wear socks from home?
You MUST wear socks inside the studio. Shoes and bare feet breed bacteria and we do not want the bacteria to get into the studio carpet.
For our Glideboard classes, everyday socks do not absorb moisture. Canvas is thicker than a sock but gives the same feeling. Our special micro fiber socks do not allow moisture to escape. When gliding, any sweat can prevent you from getting across the board and stop the movement in mid-action.
All other classes – Sticky Socks are for Traction! We need your focus on the muscle group we’re working, not on trying not to slip. That’s where the socks come in.
Do I need to bring anything?
Please bring water. If you forget it, we have water bottles for $2
